    As the lockdown has brought the entire world to a standstill, countless turned to TV and OTT platforms to recap their favorite old shows and invite some nostalgia into their quarantined lives.
    There was a time when Indian television shows catered to the whole family. Those who were lucky to grow up during that era would fondly remember these shows. However, for those who haven’t had a chance to watch these, we have prepared a list of all the rerun shows you can watch this lockdown, to keep your chill.

    Ramayan (1987 – 1988)

    Ramayan, which originally ran on Doordarshan every Sunday during the ’80s, is one of several popular shows to watch during the lockdown. Written, produced and directed by Ramanand Sagar, “Ramayan” is an Indian mythological story around Lord Ram's life. Beautifully crafted – this show gives you an opportunity to explore India’s rich culture and history.

    Mahabharat (1988 – 1990)

    Apart from Ramayan, there were a lot of other cultural series during the ’80s & ’90s but if we had to pick the best out of the lot, we definitely would go for ‘Mahabharat’ -  a show produced by veteran filmmaker, BR Chopra.
    Mahabharata is an ancient Indian epic where the main story revolves around two branches of a family – the Pandavas and Kauravas - who, in the Kurukshetra War, battle for the throne of Hastinapura. This show has vast philosophical depth and sheer magnitude. A consummate embodiment of India and its Vedic tradition, it will help you understand the ideology of life in today’s time.

    Chandrakanta (1994 – 1996)

    Chandrakanta is an Indian fantasy television series partly based on Devaki Nandan Khatri's novel of the same name. Created, written, produced, and directed by Nirja Guleri, this serial had a cult fanbase in the ’90s.
    It is a love story set against the battle and strife between two kingdoms Naugarh and Vijaygarh.  Featuring one of the catchiest title tracks most people remember to this day – this complex story with innumerable characters is full of mystique, magic and grandiose battles.

    Circus (1989 - 1990)

    A series directed by Aziz Mirza and Kundan Shah Circus was one of the popular shows on Doordarshan back in the day. This show revolves around the lives of circus artists as they go about their daily routines, surviving the twists and turns life throws at them.
    For those who don’t know, Circus was one of those shows that gave Shah Rukh fame much before he started his career in Bollywood.  The serial was critically acclaimed and made SRK a household name in the early 90s.

    Shaktiman (1997 – 2005)

    Shaktiman is an Indian superhero series. Produced by Mukesh Khanna and directed by Dinkar Jani and Vikram Veturi, Shaktimaan is a part of childhood memories for ’90s kids. Simple and entertaining – this show can be watched by all at home.

    Dekh Bhai Dekh (1993 -1994)

    If the west has F.R.I.E.N.D.S, India too has its little revolution of comedy i.e. Dekh Bhai Dekh. It is one of those sitcoms that got the entire family giggling together before the screen.
    Produced by Jaya Bachchan,  this cult classic beautifully showcases the unique bonding between three generations of the Diwan family who live together in an ancestral bungalow. Each episode showcases how the family faces the ups and downs in life with a comic backdrop.
    Star Cast: It starred classic TV artists like Farida Jalal, Shekhar Suman, Sushma Seth, Navin Nischol, Bhavana Balsavar, Urvashi Dholakia and Deven Bhojani.

    Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai (2004 – 2006)

    This Indian comedy show needs no introduction. Comedy, family, drama and a great script, this iconic sitcom had it all.
    Created by Jamnadas Majethia and Aatish Kapadia, and directed by Deven Bhojani, the show revolves around an upper-class Gujarati family living in South Mumbai. Its crazy characters, dialogues, and catchphrases will not only have you in splits but will also remind you of happier, simpler and more innocent times.

    Hum Panch (1995 – 2006)

    There’s no denying that this was one of the finest Indian TV shows! Produced by Ekta Kapoor, Hum Paanch was all about a middle-class white-collared father, Anand Mathur, and his five notorious daughters, who always created chaos in the family. However, it is the chemistry between these perky family members that made the audience roll with laughter and enjoyment.
