Cracking the Code to an Effective Work-Life Balance During the Lockdown

The pandemic has forced most of us to work from home. However, with proper organization and time management skills, is it easy to maintain a healthy work-life-balance.
The pandemic has brought about enormous changes in our work and life-styles. This event has forced most of us to work remotely.Work from home isn’t as easy as it appears – it can be tiring mentally, than physically. However, by following the guidelines below, you will be able to ace a new work-life balance during the lockdown.
    1. Prepare a Task List and Follow a Routine
Prepare a task list every morning and stick to it. Set goals and timelines for each task. You can even start your day with a video call to the team — not only to discuss work but also to check up on what’s happening in the industry. Ensure you follow a routine and you will be able to stay updated on all the tasks you perform in a day.
    2. Set Ground Rules

As you work from home, you might notice some background noise or some other kind of nuisance taking a toll on your productivity. Especially in Indian households, distractions are plenty. From kids running around,  parents, and spouse checking up on you from time to time to pets barging into your room – work from home can be chaotic.
To handle this situation sensibly – set ground rules with your family members about who can enter your workspace and when. The ground rules are also important for those who share workspace; it could be your room-mate or any other family member. The point here is to not hamper your productivity with the overall distractions.
    3. Schedule Break Timings  to Socialize With Family
Take breaks while working from home. It will relax your mind and body and give you much-needed respite amid a stressful environment.

Communicate, socialize and have meals with your family members during the break. You can even listen to some good music during this spare time. Music regulates stress and restores inner peace. It will allow you to focus better at work and make the right decisions. However, ensure you time your breaks. It will help you manage your work efficiently.
    4. If You Are a Working Parent, Use Time Smartly
If you are a parent, it could be a little difficult to handle the kids while working from home. The best trick is to involve them in creative activities. You can even assign them some household duties during the lockdown.

If you and your spouse are both working from home, take turns to do the domestic work. This practice will help you manage kids and office work simultaneously.
    5. Mark a Time to End Your Work Day
Do not overburden yourself with too much work, else you will miss the pleasures of living with your family later. Mark a time to end your office work; it will help you divide your day for other family-friendly activities.
    6. Manage Anxiety and Spare Time for Self-reflection
Health experts feel the privilege of working from home amidst the lockdown with social distancing can take a toll on mental health.  And for this reason, it is important to bring in positive changes to keep yourself going.
For 30 minutes daily, try some light exercise, simple yoga or mediation. It will revitalize your mind, body, and soul and help you stay happy throughout this phase. Also, spare some time for self-reflection and gratitude. Go to your balcony or window to get some fresh air and sunlight. Pause and thank the universe for giving you a blissful life; the blessing of having a home, family, job, etc. This act of gratitude will really bring a positive change in your thoughts amidst this atmosphere.
Lockdown does not mean you get frustrated. Instead, you need to evolve, upgrade and be resilient to change. This optimistic attitude will help you overcome challenges in life later.

Finally, remember, that you are not the only one facing the problem. Life and its chapters will change eventually, and it is we who need to adapt to lateral and positive thinking to turn the page!
